[ETHNICALLY] SPEAKING

#013: Body Positivity Movement *Special Episode*

Episode Summary

The ladies discuss the joys and challenges of the Body Positivity movement and how we can help fight fat discrimination.

Episode Notes

In this very special episode, the ladies discuss the current body positivity movement – a socio-political movement rooted in the fat acceptance movement of the 60s that is centred on radical self-love in the face of narrow beauty ideals, anti-fat discrimination and fat shaming. They explore whether the movement has been commercialised by brands and public figures for their own gain, the difference between body positivity and obesity, whether the health concerns used to criticise the movement are genuine, why society seems to be so offended by fat bodies – especially when they’re Black – and how we can combat online trolls and become true allies to the movement.
